SUZUKI SWIFT 98 SPECIFICATIONS
SUZUKI SWIFT 1998
The Suzuki Swift is a well regarded little car in many markets around the world. It was designed originally as a compact city car for the European and Japanese markets, however, it also became popular in North America and some countries in Southern Asia as a bargain priced economy class car. Among the names the Suzuki Swift was marketed around the world were Suzuki Cultus, Suzuki Jazz, Geo Metro, Pontiac

Firefly, Suzuki Maruti, Chevrolet Metro and Subaru Justy. The 1998 model came equiped with a 1.3-liter four-cylinder engine at 79 horsepower. Their excellent gas mileage, mechanical reliability, maneuverability, good looks and price tag that was well within the means of most people made them an instant hit among students, first-car buyers and female drivers. It lacked many of the amenities American drivers had come to expect such as power stearing or ABC, but this was understandable for a small bargain priced car. The lone options that could be added as dealer accessories were air-conditioning and stereo. The five-speed manual transmission provided excellent fuel economy and decent acceleration, and a three-speed automatic transmission was available as an option. The first provided 40-46 mpg and the latter only got 36-38 mpg. |
Since it was launched until it was discontinued in 2003, the Suzuki Swift made a name for itself for being a cheap, economical and reliable runabout, with low insurance and running costs. The Suzuki Swift 98 and Geo Metro were essentally the same car, however, the Metro had 9 horsepower less. They both were produced in Ingersol, Ontario, Canada.
